Observations

I am not sure how much you can tell about a person who is only about two months old, but here are my predictions.

I think Chiara is a morning person. When she wakes up in the morning, she is in the best mood ever. All smiles, stretches, gooing, and gaaing.

I predict she will be stubborn. She has a very stiff neck muscle. We do things that force her to stretch this muscle, which she does not like. One technique is tummy time. She's not going to have any of that nonsense! At 6 weeks, she learned how to flip over to her back.

Also, I think she will need more than the average amount of sleep. This girl is a sleeper. She sleeps, and sleeps, and sleeps.

Another Fun Weekend

Marco had fun with some friends again this weekend.

On Friday, Sirena came over and he was very excited to see her. They played footsies while eating dinner. His first date?

Then on Saturday, Dad took him to the park to play soccer (or football) with Jordan, but first a snack!

Here's Marco kicking the ball around (with a little help from Jordan).

A Few Observations

I thought I would jot down some things Marco has been doing lately.

He pretends to go to sleep. He will lay down somewhere, close his eyes, and fake snore. I don't even know how he figured out snoring goes with sleep, but he does this frequently.

Marco has always been very good about not crying every time he gets a little bump or scrape. Well, he has started mildly complaining about little hurts, but I can kiss it and he is fine. For example, yesterday he stepped on a toy or something fell on his foot. He whined a little and then stuck his foot in my face. I kissed it and he went on his merry way.

He really enjoys putting money in piggy banks. He asks for more and more money when he does this. I think he particularly likes the piggy bank Laura & Jeff got him that plays It's a Small World when you put money in it.

He knows what the good stuff is now. You can't leave crackers on the counter because if he sees them all he will say is cracker, cracker, cracker until he gets them. If they are to be seen during a mealtime, forget about it. No meat or peas please, I only have eyes for crackers. He even knows that often there are crackers in his diaper bag, so he will start tearing that apart to find crackers. Yesterday we went to Gymboree and while walking to the car he was waving at a woman in a cookie store. She told him to come in and he obliged. She gave him a cookie. (He gets so much free food, it's ridiculous. Today a woman gave him a clementine.) Today we walked by the same place, but this time I was carrying him. He was pointing saying eat? eat? Also today we got some lunch. He had water and I had a soda. He asked for water and so I gave him some. Then he asked for more and I tried to give him some more and he said no and pointed to my cup.

Lately he has been learning his colors, but everything is yellow. If you ask him what color something is, he ALWAYS responds yellow. Then if you say blue, red, whatever, he will then repeat that correct color. I think this is because he likes the way yellow feels when he says it. You have to stick out your tongue and then make an o face. Try it, it is a fun word to say.

By the way, he said bye as soon as I stopped recording, very typical.

A White Christmas

We were in Portland for Christmas and it was a busy and fun week. Here are some highlights, lowlights and general observations.

Highlights:

It snowed on Christmas!!!! Marco's first ever real snow and it was on Christmas.

We saw lots of family and Marco thinks all his uncles and his aunt are great. Way more fun than mom and dad. Aunt Heather showed him her kitties and showed him how they like to sleep on tissue paper. At one point, she asked Marco if he wanted a present. He said "Okay" and she gave him a little bag with tissue paper and a Blue's Clue Blue Puppy. Everyone thought he would love this gift, but instead of getting really excited with the gift he grabbed the tissue paper and ran off. He took it into Heather's room and gave it to her cat! Then he came back out and got his new toy. How thoughtful.

There are lots of dogs in Portland as both sets of grandparents have dogs. This was great news for Marco. He enjoyed feeding them, playing with them and I think eventually liked getting kisses. They of course enjoyed it when he dropped food. Marco quickly learned where the dog food was and that he should not eat it. Grandma has a stuffed puppy and he loved this. At some point I caught him shoving the puppy's nose in the dog's water bowl and trying to put food in its mouth. He had already learned what fun it is to feed dogs by giving them treats. If they did not eat fast enough, he would assist them by pushing the biscuit into their mouth. He loved playing chase with Jackson. Endless circles around the family room.

Marco definitely knows what presents are now and how to open them (maybe that should be a lowlight!)

Marco got to play with Jayla. At first, they didn't really seem to get along, but when we were leaving, they got all lovey-dovey.

We went to the Grotto for the Festival of Lights. Marco loved the lights and really had fun at the petting zoo. He got to feed the goats and sheep.

He learned to play the most important game he'll ever learn.

Lowlights:

We got on the plane to Portland and the first thing Marco did was climb under his seat and pop his head up behind him. Then he proceeded to get stuck. On the flight back, we had the worst landing any of us have ever experienced. The wind was horrible.

Marco discovered what presents are. He found one for Becky the day after Christmas and got really mad when it was taken away from him before he could open it.

He also discovered how yummy cookies are. When Brian took a bite of his cookie he cried and cried. Then Brian gave Marco a bite of his cookie and Brian cried right back at him.

General Observations:

On Wednesday we went to Beni Hana for lunch with Grammy, Grandpa, Ben, Brian, and Dan. Marco fell asleep on the way to the restaurant and proceeded to sleep through the entire meal. I ended up putting him in the Ergo on my back while I ate (we didn't bring a stroller) and he just slept and slept. Sleeping didn't go all that well in Portland and with so much excitement, it's no wonder he was really tired.

Well, I think that's all I will write about Christmas since I am writing this only two weeks late :-) We hope you had a great Christmas and New Year's.
